Swimming with dementia

Swimming is very pleasant for people with early dementia. The warm water calms down and movement feels good.

People with dementia have more problems than with memory alone. They often have difficulty moving. They suffer from balance problems and sometimes poor vision. Still, it's good to keep moving with these people. Swimming or walking in warm water can contribute to a feeling of well-being. In addition, moving is safer in the water, because the movements in the water are slowed down. This gives you more time to respond. Mentally moving gives more self-confidence. Research has also shown that exercising in warm water is good for blood circulation in the brain.
