Sports for everyone of all ages during National Sports Week Amstelveen
From Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 27, the entire city of Amstelveen will be extra focused on sports and exercise. Together with local sports providers, we are pulling out all the stops to let everyone, from young to old, discover how much energy and fun physical activity can bring. It promises to be a week full of action with free trial classes, workshops, demos, and challenges. Would you rather get started on your own, join in the fun with the family, or try out a brand-new sport? During this sports week, it is all possible!
Festive kick-off and winning initiatives
Alderman for Sport Floor Gordon will officially open the Sports Week on Friday, September 18 at 5:00 PM in the Old Village during AmstelveenDance. This inclusive dance event brings people with and without disabilities together on the dance floor. Let yourself be swept away by music and movement! From ballroom dancing to wheelchair dancing and modern dance. AmstelveenDance is also one of the five winners of the National Sports Week Awards, made possible in part by health insurer Zorg en Zekerheid.
The other winning initiatives also invite you to participate:
- Outdoor FlyKids: Discover Ultimate Frisbee at the Fly Kids Festival (Sun 20 Sept).
- Stand in Your Power: Work on resilience with the whole family during the Self-Defense Day (Sat, Sept 26).
- Open Pilates class for women: Haidy's Pilates focuses on movement, nutrition, and mindset around menopause.
- Forest Hunt: Go on an outdoor adventure with an interactive GPS treasure hunt game from De Poelster.
Enjoy exercising outdoors
Do you prefer to exercise at your own time? Amstelveen has plenty of locations in public spaces where you can immediately get started on strength, balance, and flexibility. Even better: during National Sports Week, you can participate in a special inspirational class at all these locations to get the most out of the equipment.
- Exercise bench: Do exercises using images or a QR code on the bench. You can find them in Bovenkerk, at De Meerkamp Swimming Pool, Groenhof, Bankras, and Zonnestein.
- Urban Gym at De Poel: Outdoor fitness for every level.
- KWIEK Exercise Route (Westwijk): A 1,330-meter route starting from Augustina de Witlaan 2, making smart use of street furniture.
- QR Exercise Route around De Poel: Scan the codes along the 4 km route for clear, customized instructional videos.
