New platform for sports providers

AmstelveenSport supports enterprising sports providers

Greater visibility, new collaborations, and opportunities to get more Amstelveen residents involved in sports together. That is the aim of the new Platform for Entrepreneurial Sports Providers (POS) in Amstelveen. A desire for a local POS arose within the municipality. To realize this, AmstelveenSport has appointed former professional footballer and employee Robbert Schilder as POS director.

CONNECT Amstelveen has a rich and diverse range of sports offerings. In addition to sports clubs, enterprising sports providers, such as gyms, dance schools, yoga studios, and padel centers, play an important role in this. With POS, AmstelveenSport aims to better connect these providers with each other, as well as with clubs and social organizations. “Our goal is to get as many Amstelveeners as possible moving, regardless of the provider,” says Schilder. “We want to see what collaboration concretely yields for them when sharing knowledge, networks, or space.”

OTHER TARGET GROUPS Entrepreneurial sports providers are a valuable addition to clubs. While club activities often take place in the evening, entrepreneurs also offer sports during the day. In doing so, they reach specific target groups such as the elderly, young parents, students, and working people.

WIN-WIN Schilder sees opportunities primarily in the social sphere. Think of a yoga studio providing chair yoga in a nursing home or a dance school offering ballroom dance lessons at a school. Collaboration with associations is also possible. For instance, a padel center could make courts available to members of a sports club at a reduced rate during quiet morning hours. “It is not about helping entrepreneurs simply get more customers, but about collaborations that yield something for society. Both the provider and the residents benefit from this.”

PLATFORM In Amstelveen, there was no local network yet where enterprising sports providers could easily find each other and other parties. With POS, Schilder aims to build such a network. “Many providers still operate from within their own businesses, whereas wonderful combinations emerge when you know what someone else is looking for or has to offer.” Sports Alderman Floor Gordon: “Amstelveen has a rich and diverse range of sports offerings. With this platform, we bring sports providers, clubs, and social organizations closer together. In doing so, we stimulate entrepreneurship and collaboration, and strengthen and broaden the sports and physical activity offerings for our residents.”

SPORTS CAFE AmstelveenSport will soon be organizing a meeting for entrepreneurial sports providers. From now on, the annual Sportcafé in November will also be open to both sports clubs and sports providers.

The first POS meeting will take place at our office during National Sports Week: Wednesday, September 23 from 12:30 – 14:00. A catered lunch meeting to get acquainted, explore opportunities for collaboration, and discuss what POS can mean for your company.
