  • QR Exercise Route around De Poel

AmstelveenSport looks back on a successful National Sports Week that got everyone in Amstelveen moving. For ten days, sports, fun, and socializing were the focus.

The week started with the Expeditie Poeloever for high school students and the TeamNL Kids 10@10 Challenge XXL for primary school children with Olympic rower Laila Youssifou and councillor Floor Gordon. The official opening followed at De Poel, where councillor Herbert Raat, municipal secretary Bert Winthorst, former international John Bosman and Golf Amsteldijk champion Elian Beekman were the first to tee off at the floating raft in the water. Visitors could then take part in the Floating Golf Challenge themselves. The winners were Falentino Mulman (golf clinic at Golf Amsteldijk), Thom Winthorst (lunch for two at The Winekitchen at Sea), Luuz Liefting (12-bath card lane swimming in the new pool at De Meerkamp) and Jet Smit (magnum bottle of rosé from Sunday Floating Food Bar).

The first weekend was packed with action. At Urban Sports at skatepark De West, BMX world champion Sietse van Berkel showed off his skills, and Koen Hamers gave an inspiring skate demonstration. In the afternoon, the Sports Tasting took place at the Noordelijke Poeloever, where residents were introduced to various sports, though the program had to end early due to rain. On Sunday, Amstelveen On Wheels filled the Old Village with cycling, skating, scootering, and wheelchair sports, with the Dikke Banden Race as a crowd favorite.
Later in the week, the talented athletes of AmstelveenSport took center stage at the annual kick-off event at Keizer Karel College, where Mayor Tjapko Poppens emphasized the importance of sports and perseverance. Afterward, physiotherapists from Fysiomed led workshops on fitness, injury prevention, and mental strength. Saturday was followed by a well-attended Self-Defense Day at the Ben Goudsmithal, featuring resilience training and clinics in boxing and martial arts. Sports clubs also opened their doors to introduce residents to their sports offerings.
  • Thursday, September 18 – Poeloever Expedition
For high school students: a sporty day at the Noordelijke Poeloever, full of boot camp, self-defense, and clinics from local sports providers. Everything revolves around teamwork and resilience.
  • Friday, September 19 – TeamNL Kids 10@10 Challenge XXL
At 10:00 a.m., on the square in front of De Meent, Orion 3, primary school students from grades 4, 5, and 6 from three Amstelveen schools will participate in the TeamNL Kids 10@10 Challenge. Under the guidance of Olympic rower Laila Youssifou, the children will participate in 10 minutes of exercise. Various sports and forms of exercise will be included.
  • Friday, September 19 – Opening of National Sports Week with Floating Golf at the Poel
