A larger swimming pool, new opportunities, and a new workplace for AmstelveenSport. With the expansion of De Meerkamp swimming pool, Amstelveen has gained a modern and multifunctional swimming pool. The new pool has now been in use for almost a year. Time to look back on the project: from the initial plans and construction to the festive inauguration.
Why an expansion?
Swimming pool De Meerkamp was being used increasingly intensively. Due to the growth in the number of visitors, swimming lessons, clubs, and other activities, there was a need for additional swimming facilities. Therefore, the municipal council decided to expand the swimming pool with a new pool.
A versatile 21 by 25 meter pool was chosen. Thanks to the movable floor and flexible partition wall, the pool can be used for various purposes. For instance, it accommodates swimming lessons and instruction, as well as competitive swimming and activities of water sports clubs.
A new location for AmstelveenSport
The construction of new offices for AmstelveenSport was also part of the project. The organization was growing, and the existing accommodation in the small building behind De Meerkamp was outdated and offered insufficient space. With the new construction, AmstelveenSport gained a modern and future-proof workplace, right next to the swimming pool.
From design to construction
The design of the extension was developed under the leadership of OLCO by a multidisciplinary project team consisting of Slangen + Koenis (architect), BBP (installations), Noorman (building physics), and WSP (structural engineering).
The first preparatory work began in the autumn of 2023. At the end of January 2024, the first pile was driven into the ground, and with that, the expansion increasingly took shape.
The construction was an important milestone for De Meerkamp and AmstelveenSport. Step by step, the new swimming pool was realized, while work on the new offices was being carried out simultaneously.
