4-Day Swim + Multi-Event Festival

Looking back on a successful 4-day Swim event at De Meerkamp

Tuesday 7 to Friday 10 July | Pool 1 + Outdoor pool and sunbathing area

Thanks to the athletic effort and infectious enthusiasm of all participants, the Zwem4daagse at De Meerkamp swimming pool concluded with great success after four days of water fun. During the four-day event, the participants collectively swam nearly 300,000 meters. In doing so, the participants raised sponsorship money for the Touzani Foundation, a foundation dedicated to the development of children through sports and play.

Spectacular opening with Floor Gordon and Koen Zitoen

The Swim4daagse at De Meerkamp got off to a festive start on Tuesday afternoon. Alderman for Sport Floor Gordon performed the official opening together with football influencer and goalkeeper Koen Zitoen from Touzani TV, in the presence of AmstelveenSport Director Heleen van Ketwich Verschuur and former professional footballer and AmstelveenSport employee Robbert Schilder.

More than a hundred enthusiastic participants stood at the edge of the pool, eager to jump in. From the sidelines, they watched as a spectacular opening act erupted after a warm welcome. Robbert Schilder shot at Koen Zitoen with precision. For the very last ball, Koen couldn't hold back his tears: with a spectacular dive, he jumped straight into the pool to save the ball. At the same time, the official starting shot was fired by Alderman for Sport Floor Gordon, after which the more than one hundred swimmers plunged into the water en masse to loud cheers. The Swim4Days had officially begun.

Sports and games during the Multi-Event Festival

What made this edition extra special was the combination with the Meerkamp Festival. This festival took place daily and simultaneously with the Zwem4daagse in and around the swimming pool. The goal: to introduce participants and visitors of all ages to a wide range of water and swimming sports in an accessible and fun way.

Visitors and participants could take part in various activities in and around the pool, such as mermaid swimming, canoe polo, diving, the obstacle course in the water, sports and games equipment from De Beweegbus, and much more.

Presentation of the National Sports Week Awards

During the summer drinks reception following the opening, Alderman Floor Gordon presented the National Sports Week Awards. These incentive prizes were made possible by health insurer Zorg en Zekerheid, a regular partner of the National Sports Week in Amstelveen.

With these prizes, local sports and physical activity providers are encouraged to organize accessible activities for the residents of Amstelveen during National Sports Week (September 18–27). The five winning initiatives are:

  1. AmstelveenDanst – An initiative of the Wheelchair Dance Foundation and Dance School Mittelmeijer. This inclusive dance day brings people with and without disabilities together and marks the official opening of National Sports Week in Amstelveen on Friday, September 18.
  2. Stand in Your Power – The Amstelveen Family Resilience Day by Curzo; an event where families work on mental resilience, setting boundaries, and self-defense in an accessible way.
  3. Outdoor FlyKids – An Ultimate Frisbee festival that brings the sport to the attention of children and young people in an accessible way.
  4. Open Pilates class for women – A program by Haidy's Pilates, aimed at women going through menopause, with a focus on movement, nutrition, and mindset.
  5. Forest Hunt – An outdoor GPS treasure hunt for young and old, organized by Skating Club De Poelster.

Festive opening of the 4-Day Swim with Kira Toussaint

On Tuesday 15 July at 16:30, the Zwem4Daagse will kick off festively in swimming pool De Meerkamp. The opening will be performed by none other than Kira Toussaint. The former Olympic swimmer and three-time European champion recently ended her impressive top sports career, but will do one more backstroke especially for Amstelveen, the event in which she once swam the world record.

What can you expect

Participants swim daily between 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM in the indoor or outdoor pool. Lane swimmers are also welcome to join in: they can swim between 7:00 and 10:00 in the morning. The number of kilometres swum is recorded in both cases and added up for the common goal: breaking last year's record of 414,350 metres.

Participants can cycle to collect a smoothie on the JOGG Amstelveen smoothie bike. You are welcome to make a donation to support the cause.

On the first day we have the grand opening of the Zwem4Daagse at 16:15. DJ Humphrey will be playing music. In addition, you can cycle together a smoothie for a small fee on the smoothie bike. The proceeds go to the National Fund for Sports.

During the entire 4-Day Swim you can walk over the instruction pool with a running mat.

On Friday 18 July you can swim the last laps for your sponsor card, you will receive a Zwem4Daagse medal and to close the event there will be a big Superhero Swimming Disco.

Superheroes
The theme of the Zwem4Daagse this year is Superheroes. Superheroes stand for strength, perseverance and helping others—characteristics that we also see in sports. Whether you are young or old, a recreational swimmer or a fanatic swimmer: participating in the Zwem4Daagse requires dedication and gives satisfaction. And if you also raise money for a good cause, you are a real hero as far as we are concerned. With this theme we want to show that everyone, in their own way, can be a superhero.

On Friday evening 18 July the week will be festively concluded with the Superhero Disco Swimming in the wave pool. This swimming disco is included in participation in the Zwem4daagse.
